Kid baths. I’ve been thinking about this lately considering I have two small children at home who will share a bath that doubles as a guest bath too. I’m not big on “kiddie” things. My oldest daughter’s room looks more adult than child and the nursery looks like an art gallery—nothing baby about it (minus the changing table). So, when I was planning our kid/guest bath, the goal was to design it so it’s both appealing to the kids and totally acceptable for adults.
This, I think, is what a lot of people want for their homes too. And this look can be achieved! No need to go all Hello Kitty™ with it. A soft light purple wall color, crystal chandelier, or graphic art can get you to your goal. Combine that with high level finishes and you’re good to go!
The overall goal with most kid baths is to transition with your children. Take these sister baths for example. There’s youthfulness and femininity in the wall color selections, hardware and lighting, but complete functionality in the layout. No tubs or low toilets here. Just class and sophistication that will certainly grow with the young ladies and will certainly transition to a guest space once they’re off on their own:
Here’s another set of teen baths. The cohesion here is the tile accents and clean lines. Both baths have a walk in shower with the tile detail incorporated and built-in mirror behind the door.
Now say you do want to add a little “kiddieness” to the bath. A great way to do this is by incorporating some awesome bubble tile that comes in all types of colors and sizes. Add a bright hue of paint to take it to the next level.
There are some other great aspects about these two baths. Both have low, open storage for towels or other items. The faucets have easy to use side knobs or handles, and the green bath also has built in footstools just in case the littles need an extra boost.
Lastly, sometimes the goal is to design a space for guests that your kiddo will use in the interim. In this case adding graphic art, a step stool or some fun tchotchkes can certainly transform the bath.
